What do reading partners do?
Reading partners work one-to-one with children outside of the classroom, using resources provided by us. They talk, share books and play games in thirty-minute sessions tailored to suit each child’s individual needs. Each reading partner typically sees the same three or four children once a week for a school year.
Who do we work with?
This low-key intervention is particularly effective for reluctant or unconfident readers, but we also work with more able pupils to enrich their reading skills and enjoyment. We let schools decide who would best benefit from our service.
How are reading partners prepared & supported?
All of our reading partners:
are carefully selected and fully vetted, with enhanced DBS checks and references
have comprehensive initial training (including Child Protection) to prepare them for their role
are equipped with a box full of books and games
They therefore place no extra burden on the class teacher or other school staff.
What does it cost?
It costs just £180 for one reading partner, plus £120 for each reading partner thereafter, per school year (2018/19).
New schools can try out our service free of charge for the first term.
